Management of blunt renal trauma in a crossed fused ectopic kidney

چکیده
Crossed renal ectopia is a rare congenital anomaly with an estimated incidence of 1 in 7000.1 It encompasses a spectrum of anomalies when the ureter crosses the midline and inserts into a kidney located on the opposite side of the body.1 Crossed renal ectopia with fusion of the kidneys is the most common form and is usually asymptomatic. We present a case of crossed fused renal ectopia that was diagnosed after blunt renal trauma and was managed conservatively.

Congenital Renal Fusion and Ectopia in the Trauma Patient
We present two separate cases of young male patients with congenital kidney anomalies (horseshoe and crossed fused renal ectopia) identified following blunt abdominal trauma. Despite being rare, ectopic and fusion anomalies of the kidneys are occasionally noted in a trauma patient during imaging or upon exploration of the abdomen. Incidental renal findings may influence the management of trauma...
متن کاملPancake kidney: An unusual type of renal fusion anomaly found in 99mTc-DMSA renal scintigraphy
A 2.5-year-old boy with a history of the previous incidental finding of an ectopic kidney in ultrasonography was referred to our nuclear medicine center for 99mTc-DMSA renal scintigraphy. The scan showed an unusual type of ectopic fused kidneys on the right side of the lower abdomen. In this anomaly, kidneys were fused completely across the medial portion of both upper and lower pole...
متن کاملManagement of an Iatrogenic Injury in a Crossed Ectopic Kidney Without Fusion
Crossed renal ectopia is a condition in which a kidney is located on the side opposite of its ureteral insertion. Ninety percent of crossed ectopic kidneys are fused to their ipsilateral uncrossed renal unit. Crossed renal ectopia without fusion is rare, with only 62 patients reported in the literature to date. These kidneys may suffer iatrogenic injury during an unrelated surgical intervention...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Pyeloplasty for Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction in Crossed Fused Ectopic Pelvic Kidney
Crossed fused renal ectopia is a rare anomaly and may be associated with pelvic ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO). The L-shaped fusion variety is even rarer. We report such a case with a crossed fused ectopic pelvic kidney (L-type) with PUJO and its successful laparoscopic management. Through this report we emphasize the importance of adequate preoperative imaging and intraoperative details ...
متن کاملConservative management of a grade V injury to an ectopic pelvic kidney following blunt trauma to the lower abdomen: a case report
INTRODUCTION Ectopic pelvic kidneys represent an anatomic variant that remains clinically asymptomatic in most patients. While there is some literature to suggest that ectopic kidneys may be more predisposed to blunt trauma injuries, there are few examples to guide the management of these injuries. To our knowledge, we present the first case of a grade V renal injury to an ectopic pelvic kidney...
